FBI Joins International Manhunt After 2 Bodies Discovered in Arizona Backyard

By 15 Minutes of Murder

Litchfield Park, Arizona and Avondale, Arizona – What began as a routine missing persons welfare check has escalated into an international double-homicide investigation and a global manhunt for a 27-year-old Arizona man. Federal authorities have officially joined local police to track down Matthew Flores, who is accused of killing his parents and burying their bodies in their own backyard before fleeing the United States.

The Chilling Scene Inside the Home

The investigation began on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, when worried relatives asked the Avondale Arizona Police Department to check on a Litchfield Park home. Hector Flores, 69, his wife Larissa Flores, 63, and their adult son Matthew had uncharacteristically vanished.

When officers stepped inside the residence, they immediately discovered a violent scene:

  • The Evidence:ย Investigators reported finding a massive amount of blood throughout the home along with clear, physical evidence that someone had attempted to clean up and conceal a violent struggle.ย
  • The Backyard Dig:ย Two days later, on August 6, drone footage captured forensic teams using a mini-excavator to dig up the family’s backyard. Detectives unearthed two sets of human remains in a state of decomposition. While formal autopsies remain pending, the remains match the homeowners’ profiles.ย

The Flight From Justice

Local police quickly shifted Matthew Flores from a missing person to the primary suspect in the double murder. However, by the time the bodies were found, the trail had already crossed international borders.

Avondale Police public information officer Daniel Benavidez confirmed the reality during a press conference: โ€œAll I can say is that he fled the country.โ€

Because Flores managed to flee the U.S. before the initial welfare check took place, the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service have formally taken over the international asset tracking and global fugitive sweep.

The 15 Minutes of Murder Analysis

On a recent deep dive into active fugitive flight patterns, the 15 Minutes of Murder production team analyzed the mechanics behind a sudden international escape.

“When a crime scene shows an active, panicked attempt to clean up blood, it usually indicates a suspect realizing the gravity of their actions in real-time,” true crime expert Desiree noted. “Fleeing the country requires rapid logistics, meaning a suspect either planned an exit strategy or utilized a head-start before family members realized anything was wrong.”

Producer Tanisha highlighted the shock echoing through the local Arizona community. “Classmates and neighbors are describing him as a sweet, quiet guy who worked on cars with his dad,” Tanisha observed. “The complete contrast between his public persona and a backyard crime scene is exactly what makes these cases so terrifyingly mind-boggling.”
